Memorial Day

Memorial day has always been special to me. I love to visit the graves of those who have gone before us. I have had a hard time being away from the celebrating this year so I thought I would just go to a cemetary. I had a hard time finding one since the directions I wrote down led us nowhere but finally after asking we found one. I felt bad because there were people putting on a program that would have been nice to see but we got there at the end. I took pictures of the things they had set up and all the flags on the graves. They had a bucket there full of these flags for those who died for our country. You could take one and put it on the headstone. It was a really neat thing to see and there was a lady playing patriotic songs on a keyboard to set the mood. I am glad that I was able to do something similar to what I would at home.

Caramel Krispies

2 bags (12 oz) marshmallows
1 cube butter
1 box (15 oz) rice krispies
1 bag (12 oz) miniature marshmallows
1 lb. caramels
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cube butter

Put 2 bags marshmallows in mixing bowl, slice butter on top of marshmallows. Put in microwave on high for 2 to 3 minutes (when marshmallows start to expand, they are done). Take out and stir well (mixture will continue to melt as it is stirred). Mix marshmallow cream and cereal together. Divide in half and spread half on a cookie sheet. Place miniature marshmallows on top of first layer of rice krispie treats. Melt caramel, milk and butter in microwave on high for 5 to 7 minutes. Keep checking and stirring until melted. Pour over marshmallows. Cover with remaining rice krispie mix. Note: these cut better if refrigerated but serve better at room temperature.

Newport

I had a really long crazy week and decided I needed a break. I haven't been down to see the ocean since January so I had to go! It was in the 80's today and perfect weather. My friend Trish and I went down to the bay front where they have these cute little shops. We window shopped and bought some really good taffy!They have these really neat murals painted up everywhere so I took a picture of one. We went down to the pier and watched these hilarious sea lions! They have these pallets of wood that these sea lions like to lay on and sunbathe! They make lots of noise especially when other sea lions try and get on their wood! They stick their heads in the air like they are enjoying the sun! We went over the bridge and enjoyed walking in the water. Trish got some pretty cool shots of a washed up crab and a picture of me down the beach. It was really windy so our hair didn't really cooperate for the pictures but it was still fun! I love living here and enjoying the beauty of this earth!

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.EAT ! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more better about yourself:)

Happy Mother's Day!

Today is Mother's day and I just wanted to let everyone know how great my mom is! She is such an amazing example and friend. We sometimes dont see eye to eye but its only because we are so similar. I miss our walks we use to take and the talks we had. I am so grateful she was always so willing to help me with whatever I needed. She is one of my good friends and I hope that she is as glad to have me as i am to have her! Thanks for all you do mom I love you! (sorry about the picture its kind of blurry but I couldn't find the one I wanted)

I just love sunsets and I came across these pictures on my computer so I thought I would share them with you. I haven't had much to blog about lately and have added some recipes on my other blog. Next week I should have some pretty cool pictures if the weather allows for me to go on a grand adventure! So be patient and stay tuned...
